This charming quilt illustrates the Haitian proverb, 'A leaky roof may fool the sun, but can not fool the rain.' How true that is! The landscape is dotted with 'ti kay', typical country houses, with swaying trees and the sun shining overhead.
Sr. Angela Belizaire is a gifted artist and mentor whose beautifully crafted original story quilts are distinguished by their meticulous detail and artistry. A member of the Little Children of Mary, a Haitian Catholic religious order, she dedicated many years to teaching sewing, dressmaking, and later quilting, inspiring and training generations of Haitian women in these skills and traditions.
This quilt is treadle-machine pieced of 100% cotton, with hand appliqué, embroidery and quilting. Sleeve on reverse for hanging.
